Labor Day Weekend – onward to fall

Labor Day weekend was a bittersweet few days at NIGHT LIGHTS at The Heron. We were super pumped to know that Rusted Root’s percussionist and acclaimed music instructor, Jim Donovan was hosting a three-day Rhythm Revival workshop. The Heron was abuzz with drum and dance classes and performances dedicated to spiritual renewal. There was magic in the air…you could just feel it. On Friday night, we had a great group of visitors from the Learning Disabilities Association of WNY. The group received a tour of the The Heron farm before embarking on a walk through NIGHT LIGHTS. Then the rains came late Friday night and came at us throughout the day on Saturday. The only consulation about canceling NIGHT LIGHTS on Saturday night was that we were able to attend the performances from Rhythm Revival. NIGHT LIGHTS was open on Sunday night, with many families coming out…we had two different groups from the Rochester-area, Buffalo, Olean and Edinboro, PA.

The constant rain has put a kabosh on our evening tonight. We are canceled for tonight. However, we will be open Sunday night.

We are ready for a tremendous weekend out at The Heron….and we will be opening Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Friday and Saturday are going to be filled with drum performances that you will not want to miss. The sun is going down at lot earlier, so that means we’ll be open for at around 8:20 p.m. Come on out and see why everyone who walks through NIGHT LIGHTS loves it.

Catch amazing drum performances this weekend at NIGHT LIGHTS

Visitors to NIGHT LIGHTS at The Heron this weekend will be treated to drum and dance performances from Jim Donovan’s Rhythm Revival workshop. The admission fee to NIGHT LIGHTS at The Heron will not only allow visitors to walk the almost one-mile of trails lighted with theatrical lighting and sound, but can watch performances stemming from The Great Rhythm Revival (www.greatrhythmrevival.com).

Jim Donovan, former percussionist of the popular rock group Rusted Root, is hosting The Great Rhythm Revival “Three Days of Rhythm and Rejuventation” at The Heron.

In a large tent located on The Heron, on Friday night the percussion outfit Tertium Quid Percussion Ensemble and friends from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. On Saturday night, Drum the Ecstatic International will perform from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Hey folks, just a little shout out to y’all. NIGHT LIGHTS at The Heron will be open Friday, Saturday AND Sunday this Labor Day weekend. It’s getting dark much earlier now, so we’ll probably be opening at 8:20 p.m., if not a few minutes earlier. A special treat this weekend is that if you come to NIGHT LIGHTS, you’ll be able to experience international drumming performances from Jim Donovan’s Rhythm Revival workshops that will be also happening at The Heron next weekend. More on that a little later.

Gang, I wouldn’t lie to you…Lazlo Hollyfeld is one sweet, unique band and they are playing NIGHT LIGHTS tonight! And your life would be better for it if you saw them tonight. The band is all instumental – no vocals – and puts out the biggest sounding tunes, as well as the quiet little ones that will have your head spinning. It’s amazing the rhythms and riffs they play in a four-minute tune. I’m just saying…

Trying not to sound like a broken record, but we meet the coolest people at NIGHT LIGHTS every night, and last night was one of those nights. We had interesting conversations with fun people from, Erie, PA, Philly, Hamburg, NY, Union City, PA, Russell, PA, Ashville, NY, and Jamestown, NY. We’ll show some pictures tomorrow. I’m off to sit by the pond and get caught up on some reading.

We’ve recovered from last weekend’s monsoon that hit the Sherman, NY area. After a great Friday night, the rains came Saturday afternoon and pretty much went steady a whole 24 hours. We are back at it again this weekend, with the super cool Lazlo Hollyfeld taking the headlines, with a Saturday night performance. We will be open on both Friday and Saturday night. Friday night of this week, we’ll probably play some drums at the Cafe in the Woods – all are welcome to join in. Plus, we have a few drums to spare, so don’t be shy, come along.

On Saturday night, Buffalo’s Lazlo Hollyfeld bring their ultra smooth sound to NIGHT LIGHTS. This is an amazing band, comprising of four musicians who can really put out a wall of sound. Lazlo’s music ranges from atmospheric rockers to mellow mood music that will seem right at home at NIGHT LIGHTS. We will be featuring camping this Saturday night at $10 a head. Come on out and see us this weekend.

TONIGHT: RAINED OUT…John & Mary reschedule for Sat. Sept. 18th

Bummer!!! Check that, major bummer! The rains are all over us and coming our way. So we have to cancel tonight’s NIGHT LIGHTS at The Heron, and the much anticipated return of John & Mary. The duo has tentatively confirmed a rescheduled performance date of Sat., Sept. 18th – our wine night. Sorry. We’re just as bummed out as you. See you next weekend.

One of the pleasures in creating NIGHT LIGHTS at The Heron is meeting the wonderfully stimulating visitors that walk our trails. From tourists to the neighbors on the next hill, The Heron seems to attract some the nicest, coolest and inspiring people you’ll ever want to meet. We love it! Last night, a spontaneous drum circle broke out at the Café in the Woods…one guy from Sherman, one from Spain, one from Erie, and another from Buffalo. The four of them immediately created some fun rhythms with their drums. We hope NIGHT LIGHTS inspires creativity, and last night’s drumming is one of those moments that carry that mission. Frenchy and his Volt Vision posse made some creative adjustments to the pond. The pond itself is worth the visit to NIGHT LIGHTS, most in part due to Frenchy and his commitment to his craft. We are lucky to have him on our team. We are grateful for our visitors that came from Youngstown, OH, Erie, PA, Frewsburg, NY, Westfield, NY and get this…Spain!!!! We feel the love!

Tonight, of course, is John & Mary from the 10,000 Maniacs. Simply put…their music and the environment at the Café in the Woods will produce an unforgettable evening. The weather is looking good – we hope to see you tonight.
