THE CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY COUNTRYSIDE WILL ONCE AGAIN LIGHT UP THE NIGHT WITH THE RETURN OF NIGHT LIGHTS AT THE HERON
The one-of-a-kind eco-tourism attraction NIGHT LIGHTS at The Heron returns for second season
SHERMAN, NY – One of North America’s most unique visitor attractions, NIGHT LIGHTS at The Heron, will be making its return this summer on Friday and Saturday nights from July 30 to October 2, 2010. It will also be open on Sunday, September 5, of Labor Day weekend too!
NIGHT LIGHTS at The Heron is a unique outdoor light show attraction that is set throughout the forests and ponds of “The Heron,” where guests walk a series of paths through a forest that is transformed with light, art and sound installations using different colors and tones inspired by the natural world. NIGHT LIGHTS is a one-of-a-kind attraction in North America.
Located in Sherman, New York, The Heron is a private 200-acre rural property that is home to the Great Blue Heron Music Festival (celebrating its 19th consecutive year this July) and Green Heron Growers, a certified organic farm. NIGHT LIGHTS utilizes the property’s extensive network of trails, ponds, and buildings, including the charming Café in the Woods.
Visitors to NIGHT LIGHTS at The Heron should expect an hour-unguided walk through the smooth trails that traverse the property. Guests are encouraged to bring flashlights for a few dark sections of the trail. Along the way, visitors will experience different lighted scenes that correspond with the forest’s natural environment and artistic light installations. In some cases, music is used to enhance the experience. Guests will also pass by the Café in the Woods, which is where they can purchase select beverages, homemade cookies, t-shirts and other merchandise. The café is also the location for musical and artistic performances.
NIGHT LIGHTS at The Heron debuted in July 2009 and experienced a very successful inaugural season. Organizers are busy at work created new light and art installations for the 2010 season, as well as schedule artistic performances and exhibits. A special event coinciding with NIGHT LIGHTS on Labor Day weekend will be The 2010 Great Rhythm Revival, a three-day drumming workshop hosted by Rusted Root’s Jim Donovan.
“We were thrilled with the response that we received last summer,” said Doug Sitler, NIGHT LIGHTS founder. “Especially at the end of the season, word started to spread about NIGHT LIGHTS and we had growing crowds right up to the very end. We are very encouraged that NIGHT LIGHTS will continue to grow as a tourist attraction in New York State.”
NIGHT LIGHTS at the Heron will be open on Friday and Saturday nights from July 30 to October 2, 2010. It will be open on Sunday, September 5th of Labor Day weekend. The attraction opens at dusk – usually at 8:30 p.m. in the early part of the season, and closer to 7:30 p.m. in September. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 5 to 12 years old, and free to five and under.
